Soundtrack

For horror movie trailers, the soundtrack is a key component to create atmosphere and the overall feel for the trailer. Typical for the genre that we are basing our trailer on, the soundtrack has to be tension building, climactic and eerie. To do this, the soundtrack has to be prominent throughout the whole trailer so that the ambiance and atmosphere it is creating is not disturbed by dialogue and other sounds.

For our trailer we thought to collect and analyse a few soundtracks from other horror movie trailers that had been successful. These were:

The 28 Days Later soundtrack has almost became an iconic horror movie soundtrack due to its simplistic tone which conforms to isolationism and loneliness. There are many climactic parts which I feel would be good to use in our trailer. The part that I really like about this soundtrack is the transition to the more aggressive section of the music which I believe would fit in perfectly with out trailer.

The Amityville Horror soundtrack is also a well regarded piece of music due to the following and importance of it through its conception in the 70's. The remake which followed in the 2000s brought along a haunting piece of atmospheric music. The long length of this may be good as we would have lots of segments to use from. Sadly the bad part about this soundtrack is that there is no fast-paced part to this which will be needed in our trailers.

The Saw Soundtrack was finally our third option to place in our film trailer. We believe this had the same problem as the previous soundtrack as the was no fast-paced section to work with which would become a vital part in our trailer.

In Conclusion, we have decided to go forth with our first option, the 28 Days Later soundtrack as it is a very widely known and adaptable soundtrack, with both slow and fast paced parts for us to use in the diting of our trailer.
